Upsala Glacier, Argentina, by COSMO-SkyMed

Parque Nacional Los Glaciares

The multitemporal image is made from three acquisitions (coherence data was not used). For each date a different colour is assigned to make the final RGB Image.

red: 2009/02/04
green: 2009/02/28
blue: 2009/06/12

In the top left corner of the image, the different colours depict the front edge of the glacier, showing in the coloured lines the movement between the different dates (in particular the retreat shown by the blue line). Below there are small icebergs: the different colours give an idea of their movement. The lake shows mostly blue because on that date the surface was disturbed by the wind, giving a stronger radar return than the other dates. Each pixel (in the full-resolution image) represents 10 metres.
