Prince Felipe of Spain visits the European Union Satellite Centre in Torrejón.

On 13 April, His Royal Highness Prince Felipe of Spain paid a visit to the European Union Satellite Centre (EUSC) in Torrejón de Ardoz, near Madrid. During his visit, Prince Felipe was shown the satellite maps of Haiti that were produced with the help of e-GEOS in the days following the terrible earthquake that struck earlier this year on 12 January.

Tomaž Lovrenčič, the director of the EUSC, demonstrated the Centre's work and the response capabilities offered by Earth-observation satellites when natural disasters occur.

The maps, which show damage analysis and the condition of roads, were produced by e‑GEOS and EUSC as part of the G-MOSAIC (GMES Services for the Management of Operations, Situation Awareness and Intelligence for Regional Crises) project and were used by the Spanish aid mission, the UN contingent and the Italian Civil Protection Agency to help them operate effectively in the worst-hit areas.
