News4 February 2011 Unrest in Cairo, Egypt. |
|
On 29 January 2011, the e-GEOS emergency team worked around the clock to make available to our key customers in the security and defense sectors a GeoEye-1 image of the Egyptian city of Cairo in the early days of the uprising. The image shows the area around the Egyptian Museum, tanks deployed around the structure, groups of people in the streets, and the black smoke from a fire in the building next to the museum. To the south, large numbers of people can be seen gathering in Al Tahrir Square, the principal locus of demonstrations. The image was acquired and produced ina very short time thanks to the e-GEOS 24/7 emergency team which worked through Friday night and Saturday, from the AoI feasibility to the satellite tasking, successful image acquisition and fast delivery to the client. e-GEOS through its Earth Observation ground station in Neustrelitz, Germany, is able to offer access to high-priority tasking and processing and fast delivery of GeoEye-1 and IKONOS data over Europe and North Africa. Download a kml file showing the principal sites of unrest.
