14 June 2010 World Cup 2010: the COSMO-SkyMed image of the stadium in Cape Town

The COSMO-SkyMed satellites have captured an image of the Green Point Stadium in Cape Town, which will host today’s match between Italy and Paraguay at the Football World Cup currently under way in South Africa. The radar image taken by COSMO-SkyMed on 13 June 2010 also shows the port in Cape Town. A gallery of radar and optical satellite images of all the stadiums and cities hosting World Cup 2010 matches is available here.

Louisiana: COSMO-SkyMed image of the oil slick near the Mississippi Delta.

An image taken by COSMO-SkyMed radar satellites on 29 April shows the oil slick (in black), which is closing in on the Louisiana coast. A comparison of the images taken on 29 April and on the 2 May with the latest one of 3 May shows that, due to a change in the wind direction, the oil slick is moving towards the north-east and away from the Mississippi Delta. more >>

Prince Felipe of Spain visits the European Union Satellite Centre in Torrejón

COSMO-SkyMed multitemporal image of the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajoekull

The image is obtained using two acquisitions, one before and one after the eruption (03/04/2010 and 19/04/2010). In the image, it is possible to distinguish changes in the signal recorded by the radar by the presence of red and green areas. Details >>

e-GEOS signs framework contract with the European Union to supply GeoEye-1 and IKONOS very high resolution satellite data

e-GEOS has signed a framework supply contract with the European Union, through the Joint Research Center (JRC) of the European Commission. Under the up to 4 year contract, which is worth approximately EUR 5.4 million per year, e-GEOS will provide the Union with world-wide Very High Resolution images from the GeoEye-1 and IKONOS satellites Details >>

e-GEOS has produced an assessment of the damage suffered by the city of Concepcion, Chile, as a result of the earthquake of 27 February 2010, which it has provided to the UN's Department of Field Support and the Italian foreign affairs ministry.

e-GEOS provides aid agencies with satellite maps of Léogâne and Jacmel, two cities hit by the earthquake in Haiti

e-GEOS, in collaboration with the European Union Satellite Centre (EUSC), is providing satellite maps of road conditions in the Haitian areas of and Jacmel and Léogâne. These areas have been awaiting aid operations for some time due to poor road conditions and inefficient co-ordination of relief following the disaster. More >>

GeoEye-1 imagery of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, 12 January 2010

Taken by the GeoEye-1 satellite from 423 miles in space at 10:27 am EST on Jan. 13, 2010. Ground resolution is half meter. The imagery clearly shows extensive damage throughout the city. One can see roads covered with debris from collapsed structures, people crowded in the streets and in open public places such as sports fields and stadiums.
