The Cát Bà National Park Hooded Black Leaf Monkey is classified as Critically Endangered and has been listed as one of the World’s 25 Most Endangered Primates since 2000. Although the population is increasing, the species is listed as Critically Endangered because currently there are fewer than 50 mature individuals remaining. The entire population lives on Cat Ba Island, where it has a small range that is threatened by fires, tourism and urban development.
