Etosha National Park, Namibia

The Black Rhino was last assessed for the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in 2020. Large-scale poaching has caused a dramatic fall in numbers, but the population has been recovering largely thanks to effective protection and the translocation of rhinos to re-establish viable populations within their former range. Numbers continue to rise in the continent, although at a reduced rate due to increased poaching since 2007. It is classified as Critically Endangered.
