The Grand Cayman Blue Iguana was last assessed for the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in 2012. It is endemic to the island and is one of the largest lizards in the world. Crucial for the lizards’ recovery was the support of the locals, who helped by harvesting wild plants to feed the iguanas. Regardless, feral and free-roaming dogs kill adults and cats prey on juvenile iguanas, which have been shown to cause local populations to vanish. It is classified as Endangered.
